Gaposa — Sports enthusiasts in Gaposa have reason to celebrate as a new partnership has been sealed to establish a regional football academy in the town. The agreement, finalized over the weekend between the Gaposa Sports Council and a Lagos-based sports development firm, aims to nurture young talent and put Gaposa on the national football map.
The academy will focus on training players between the ages of 12 and 18, with facilities including a modern training pitch, fitness center, and accommodation for resident players. Organizers say the program will also prioritize education, ensuring student-athletes balance their studies with sports development.
“We believe this academy will not only produce professional footballers but also create opportunities for youth in our community,” said Mr. Tunde Babalola, Director of Sports for Gaposa. “Our vision is to see players from Gaposa competing in the Nigerian Premier League and even on international stages.”
Local football fans and aspiring players have already expressed excitement, with many seeing the academy as a gateway to opportunities previously out of reach. The project is also expected to boost tourism and local businesses through tournaments and talent showcases hosted in Gaposa.
Sports analysts say the initiative could serve as a model for grassroots sports development in the state, fostering both community pride and economic growth.
